Programs offered at Horizon Achievement Centre are diverse, customized and focused on individual choice and need.


Life Enhancement Services

Life Enhancement provides a broad range of programs and services, which reflect the diverse needs of clients through on- and off-site activities, which promote inclusion, independence and choice.

Program Goals:

  • To enhance social skills and life skills through small groups or individualized training.
  • To provide community integration opportunities through leisure and community-based services.
  • To facilitate community-based interventions to address individual needs.
  • To develop workplace experiences which promote independence and practical work skills training.
  • To recognize and address individual accomplishments and needs through the effective partnering of internal and external agencies.

Vocational Departments

Vocational Departments are centre-based business operations whose mandates are to provide practical training and work experiences that promote individual choice and enhance career aspirations.

Department Goals:

  • To provide transferrable training in community and employment related skills.
  • To identify individual strengths and abilities through assessments and case planning.
  • To facilitate training opportunities to enhance personal growth and development.
  • To develop on-site workplace experiences which promote independence and practical work skills training.
  • To recognize and address individual accomplishments and needs through the effective partnering of internal and external agencies.

Pre-Employment

The Pre-Employment Department consists of a variety of small group, classroom-style training programs. The mandate for each program is to provide quality and effective learning opportunities through consumer-directed initiatives.

Department Goals:

  • To recognize and accommodate the unique and diverse learning abilities of students in all teaching practices.
  • To provide an environment which promotes effective learning.
  • To ensure that all programs meet consumer demands and are cost effective.
  • To facilitate ongoing training and/or employment opportunities for program participants.
  • To provide an effective method of evaluation which recognizes individual accomplishments.
  • To recognize and address individual accomplishments and needs through the effective partnering of internal and external agencies.

Community Employment

The Community Employment Department is a career-oriented division of the Horizon Achievement Centre, whose mandate is to facilitate employment for adults with mental disabilities, or who face multiple barriers to employment, through counselling, training, and practical work experience.

Department Goals:

  • To enhance the employability of clients through individual assessment and training.
  • To provide opportunities for employment through job development and community awareness.
  • To facilitate career development through individualized case planning.
  • To provide workplace support and assistance through job coaching and monitoring activities.
  • To recognize and address individual accomplishments and needs through the effective partnering of internal and external agencies.

Employment Development Services

The mandate of Employment Development Program is to assist employment-disadvantaged individuals to overcome attitudinal, social and educational barriers to employment by providing individualized skills and employment services, to increase employment potential within the community.  This program consists of a variety of interventions all designed to have a positive impact on a persons attitude, motivation and employability. The program runs for twenty six weeks and includes training in:

  • Marketable Skills Development
  • Computer Skills
  • Academic Upgrading
  • Job Development Skills
  • Personal Development Skills
